So San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made a decision to sit during the national anthem versus the Green Bay Packers. First, Colin Kaepernick is biracial. His biological mom is white and talks about her son in an article that appeared in The Mercury News. He sat because “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Oppression is defined as “unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power” (Merriam-Websters). So this is a something that has been misleading by Black Lives Matter. The “oppression” is even more difficult coming from someone who makes millions a year. Let’s see how much. From the website Sportrac “Colin Kaepernick signed a 6 year, $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000. In 2016, Kaepernick will earn a base salary of $11,900,000, a roster bonus of $2,000,000 and a workout bonus of $400,000”. Wow, now that is oppression for sure.
Let’s talk about the other point in his comment “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Yes, Colin there are bodies in the street caused by other “oppressed” individuals against other “oppressed” individuals of the same skin color. We see stories every day from Chicago, New York, and Detroit of black on black crimes. Where do you stand, or sit, on that? What do you say about that? Nothing the same as the other Black Lives Matter people including the President. Silence. Of course, there is also the reference of “people getting paid leave and getting away with murder”. Those same police officers that were found innocent of any wrongdoing by several inquiries and Black Lives Matter tries to make them guilty regardless of the facts? How do you feel about the Dallas police officers being ambushed and murdered Colin? Where do you stand, or sit, on that one? Silence once again I’m sure. Colin some advice for you. Maybe you should just stand during the National Anthem in honor of all those people who sacrificed their lives so you can make your millions of dollars. Oh, and watch the video below of U.S. pole-vaulter from the Olympics who stops midstride to stand for the national anthem. Maybe that will teach you what honor and values are.
